Passage

Mental health and its practices is a topic that is often ignored and forgotten. It is a conversation felt by some as uncomfortable and therefore becomes a topic that is tiptoed around. ‘Passage’ opens up this conversation by immersing participants and viewers in a fully immersive setting of an exhibition and experience.

‘Passage’ is an exhibition that bring the key moments and events of New Zealand’s mental health timeline, revealing what we often try to ignore.

Responding to the location of Government House and the history of the site, this exhibition focuses on the wellbeing go mental health in both a historical and current context. With the sites history of the Mount View Asylum, it is a site that instigates the discussion of mental health, particularly the treatment of mental health patients.

‘Passage’ aims at creating both a experience and exhibition that is immersive and educational.

This project was for a 3rd year spatial design paper.
